08 Jul Resilience Training began at HCMC this week.
On Wednesday July 6, 2016 we launched the first Resilience Training program to HCMC employees. The Resilience Training program is an interdisciplinary approach to enhance stress hardiness. It combines mindfulness training with other resilience-promoting habits such as good nutrition, good sleep, and cardiac exercise. HCMC leadership has heard the call from staff for help in stress management and made a substantial financial commitment to pay their employees to take this training. I feel lucky to take the lead role in this importance initiative. It’s been fun developing the program and research study with the rest of the Resilience Training Team that includes physicians, psychologists, and physical therapists.
The course is weekly for two hours for 8 weeks and includes a full day Saturday retreat. We’re currently running two courses and have two more courses scheduled in the fall. We’re gathering outcome data to examine the effectiveness of the course and hope that HCMC will continue to support this program well into the future…. We already have a waiting list.
